Tommi Parzinger

Tommi Parzinger is one of our favorite designers. His work represents a refined, classic form of modernism that feels both luxurious and timeless. Much of his furniture was created in limited quantities or as custom pieces for private clients, although he also designed important collections for Charak Modern and produced furniture through his own company, Parzinger Originals. His pieces were made to an exceptionally high standard and often incorporated exotic woods, rich veneers, lacquer, brass, and other costly, labor-intensive materials. Parzinger’s designs are elegant without being overly restrained and decorative without losing their modern character. In my opinion, his work represents some of the finest and most sophisticated American furniture design of the mid-century period. Paul Evans was one of the most innovative and recognizable designers of the American studio furniture movement. He began his career in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he and Philip Lloyd Powell operated a workshop creating custom furniture for the area’s thriving arts community. Evans later designed for several manufacturers, including Directional Furniture, but is best known for his sculptural designs that combined metal with exotic wood veneers and bold, geometric forms. Many of his early works were one-of-a-kind or produced in very limited numbers, making them especially desirable to collectors. Today, Paul Evans is considered one of the most influential American furniture designers of the twentieth century, with his work remaining among the most sought-after in the mid-century market.
