Alcoa/Reynolds/Gf Studios for Gordon Bumshaft Italic Credenza Mid-Century Modern Desk

$1,700.00 USD

This is an Italic Desk, designed by Alcoa / Reynolds / GF Studios by Gordon Bunshaft and SOM's Reynolds Metals Headquarters in Richmond, VA. The design is largely seen as a collaboration, as SOM was hugely involved in furniture design at that time through the leadership of Bunshaft. The collaborators such as GF Studios and Alcoa were able to help in providing material and manufacturing. Overall, the idea was to create a desk from Aluminum for the headquarters of this company focused on metal (Reynolds). The desk’s frame is made from steel, and its design includes 3 drawers, with one being a file drawer and one being a slide out flipper drawer. This desk has metal trim matte brass electroplated-aluminum, and it has a woodgrain laminate top.

Condition Notes
This piece is in well-used vintage condition. There are scratches, scuffs, dents, and marks throughout. The laminate top has scratches, scuffs and residue and is separating on the ends. Screws were previously installed to try and fix it. The laminate edgeband is missing on both sides and the back edgeband is separating and has a chunk missing (pictured). The front metal edge has scratches and wear. The drawers function and lock as they should (key included). The middle flipper drawer functions as it should though we believe it was added at a later time due to it not matching the rest of the piece. The legs have scratches and wear but are sturdy and level. We’d recommend a full restoration and deep cleaning for this piece. There is grime, small debris, and general dirtiness in hard to reach places. Please see photos for full condition details.
